The Most Disgusting Pizza Toppings, As Voted by You

There are toppings meant for pizza, and there are toppings not meant for pizza. Sometimes what should and shouldn’t go on a pizza is up for debate, but other times the masses are united in their disgust for a select few toppings.

But it turns out what’s considered disgusting differs across cultures, as we found in a recent Cheesy Pizza Cup survey asking Chinese and foreigners what they considered to be the most disgusting pizza toppings they’ve tasted.

Chinese respondents were more averse to pineapple than foreign respondents

The results are as follows:

Chinese Respondents

  1. Durian榴莲

  2. Anchovies凤尾鱼

  3. Blue Cheese蓝纹奶酪

  4. Black Olives黑橄榄

  5. Pineapple菠萝

Foreign Respondents:

  1. Durian榴莲

  2. Mayonnaise蛋黄酱

  3. Carrots胡萝卜

  4. Anchovies凤尾鱼

  5. Pineapple菠萝

While it doesn’t come as much of a surprise, Chinese and foreigners alike detest durian on pizza, with that pungent topping listed as pizza enemy #1. They also share a distaste for anchovies (we personally have to disagree here; anchovies on pizza is the bees knees), and to a lesser degree, pineapple.

Durian on pizza is a no-no for Chinese and foreigners alike

Where they differ is in the other repugnant ingredients, with Chinese respondents listing blue cheese and black olives in their Top Five, whereas foreigners find mayonnaise and carrots to be putrid on pizza.
